Broken Windowpane
I left Avila college after a single semester, answered an ad in a local paper looking for a Solo Musician to perform in the bar of a Winter Park Ski Resort, plus other duties but with days off to ski. I was ready to become the next Bob Dylan, Cat Stevens, Neil Young. I quit school, which I was nearly failing anyway and headed to the resort with my guitar. I had probably 30 cover songs in my bag, along with some personally written material. I was young and full of myself and the next six months of my life was filled with experiences I will often say was the best part of my life, it wasn't but in retrospect I was doing what I wanted to do and what I thought I was born to do for the first time in my life.....
Broken Windowpane - Douglas W. Fielder
(Am) You come (C)around when you’re (G) feeling sad and (Bflat)(A)down,
all (Dm)alone, on your (F) own you would (C)sink like a (Dbar#) (D)stone,
in a (C) lake, you would (Emdim7))make pretty(Am7) ripples on the (G)top
but(G pull on) at the (C) bottom you would (Cbb)stick in the (Am7)mud and you’d (G)stop
(F) never knowing what went (E) wrong…..
You’re just a broken windowpane, that the rains coming through,
you can’t fill in all the holes, the controls of what you do.
And if you glue it, you can’t see through it so what’s the use
in going on, if you’re wrong, you just long to be right…
where you are, once again…..
Times such a nuisance when you think of all the time,
you’ve employed, explaining problems in our time
that you say we could avoid, if we only had the time
oh my friend, will you senseless use of time ever come to an end
or will it linger, eternally.
You play guitar and you wish you were a star, in the sky
you can see every single harmony, so you sing them and you bring them
to the park and to the beach, and though you know every word
bell they all seem out of reach, at least for now, they are somehow…..
You come around when you’re feeling sad and down…….
