Guess I'll Be Dancing Tonight

During one of my park jams in Cardiff CA, a harmonica player remarked that the prior evening was his wife's birthday. I congratulated him and asked if he took her out, to which he remarked, "Yeah, had to take her out dancing!". I was struck by way he said it and inquired further, his response to my question was that "I don't dance, don't like dancing much". I took that home with me and the next Sunday jam session I presented him with this song.

Guess I'll Be Dancing Tonight - Douglas W. Fielder
(With Inspiration from Gary "Koz" Kozlow

When she ordered her first Margarita, with a shot of Patron on the side
I was looking around the barroom, for some place I’d be able to hide
A second round just like the first one, came quicker than I would have guessed
If the third round’s the same, she’ll forget all her shame and my feet will be put to the test.

So I guess I’ll be dancing tonight
I’ll be up on the dance floor despite
The fact that I don’t know just how to complete
one single move and I’ve got two left feet

Her friends are all out on the dance floor, to me that’s a pretty bad sign
When the third ‘Rita hits, she’ll calling my name but I just won’t pay her no mind
I’ll be right behind “Koz” in the corner, Scott and him blocking her view
But her “radar” is on when they start the next song and she pulling me out right on cue!

So I guess I’ll be dancing tonight
Could resist her, you know I still might
But the punishments hard and the reward is sweet
Can’t think of a reason except for my two left feet

After three rocking songs the band tires and they play a slow song instead
As she presses her body against me, her perfume goes right to my head
By the time that the slow song is ending, I have only one thing on my mind
But round four just arrived, and she’s coming alive, by the time we get home she’ll be blind….

So I guess I’ll be dancing tonight
Can’t resist her cause I know she just might
Be in full boogie mode when we hit the front door
We’ll miss the bed and make love on the floor

She’ll call my name when that moment arrives
And though it ain’t Jesus, I still get a rise
I know that she loves me and my two left feet
I love her too and this song is complete
