The Odds of Meeting You
I had just turned 60 and gone through a breakup with Wendy, who I had dated for a couple of years and thought was going to be my long term partner. We had tickets for Hawaii together and I wound up putting the one I bought for her back on my account for future travel. On the flight over I had the most beautiful young girl occupying the seat vacated due to the breakup and it put in my head a whole sequence of thoughts. When we started talking during the flight, she told me her mom was about my age and had just moved to San Diego. She was looking for new friends and liked to hike so I gave her my number and told her I would be happy to hook her up with my "Fun After Fifty" group online, we did lots of fun stuff including hiking. While I was in Hawaii I used that thought to create this song, what are the odds that I would find someone that way!
The Odds of Meeting You - Douglas W. Fielder
You know I had a thought today
I was really on my way
All the pains behind me now
I can see the light and how
It's so easy to believe
And it's such a big relief
I've been waiting far to long
For you to come along
And if you look into my eyes
you'll understand the way I feel
I never felt like this before
I see your smiling face
and I feel your warm embrace
and all I think is I want more..... I want more.....
Girl let's take a walk today
On the sand down by the bay
We can stop and feel the breeze
We can sit beneath the trees
You are such a lovely sight
We can walk right into night
We can dance the night away
And then start a brand new day
And when I hold you in my arms
There's nothing else that quite compares
I never felt like this before.
I see your smiling face
and I feel your warm embrace
and all I think is I want more..... I want more.....
I never thought it'd be so easy to say
Everyday I love you more....
You're the who makes me feel this way
You're what I am living for.....
I think it's funny how you walked into my life
The odds of meeting you were so high
But somewhere in the cards
I pulled the Queen of Hearts
and I won't stop to wonder why
